US-India Trade Deal Nears Finalization

US and India close to finalising a trade agreement, aiming to reduce tariffs and enhance market access before the July 9 deadline.

The United States and India are on the verge of finalizing a comprehensive trade agreement, with negotiations showing significant progress. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressed optimism that a mutually beneficial deal could be reached before the self-imposed deadline of July 9.

Key discussion points include reducing tariffs on agricultural goods, expanding market access for American companies, and increasing defense equipment purchases. In return, the US is considering enhanced access for Indian exports. Upcoming bilateral meetings, including a US delegation’s visit to New Delhi on June 5-6, are expected to solidify the agreement.
